It is a promising perspective to integrate the sediment transport model described in Kuhrts et al. (2004) into the biogeochemical model components of Neumann et al. (2002) to identify the transport paths of organic and inorganic particulate matter from the sources (rivers and primary production in the surface layer) to the deposition areas in the deep basins, where accumulation of new sediment is observed. [Pg.611]

The metals may be present in oils as inorganic particulate matter (such as mineral grains or absorbed on clay minerals), in emulsified formation waters, introduced as drilling fluids or corrosion inhibitors or present as organometallic complexes. Only if the metals are present in an oil-soluble form as true complexes can meaningful geochemical information be obtained from trace element data. [Pg.32]

MF pretreatment was chosen to eliminate particulate matter such as bacteria and inorganic particles, which were not part of the target material. MF would not normally remove natural organics, due to their small size, but NOM often adsorbs on inorganic particulate matter, which is removed and causes a loss of the target material. However, it was considered more important to remove inorganic particles and bacteria. [Pg.318]

Hanappe et al. (1968) concluded from their data that the rate of deposition of inorganic particulate matter at Base Roi Baudouin is lO g/cmVyear, whereas at Plateau Station the rate of deposition is only 10 g/cmVyear. In other words, the rate of deposition particulates at the coastal site is about 100 times higher than at the interior site. These authors also concluded that 98% of the solute at Plateau Station consists of terrestrial material and 2% is extraterrestrial dust containing about 1.3% nickel. If all the nickel in... [Pg.613]

Among the constituents of inorganic particulate matter found in polluted atmospheres are salts, oxides, nitrogen compounds, sulfur compounds, various metals, and radionuclides. In coastal areas, sodium and chlorine get into atmospheric particles as sodium chloride from sea spray. The trace elements that typically occur in particulate matter and their sources are the following ... [Pg.184]
