Inorganic cores

Antimicrobial agents are used where there is a need to inhibit bacterial and fungal growth. The additives can consist of copper, germanium, zinc and zinc compounds, metal oxides or sulfides, metal zeofltes, as well as silver and copper oxide-coated inorganic core particles (154—159) (see Industrial ANTIMICROBIAL AGENTS). [Pg.257]

Fig. 17.2 Left A schematic picture of ferritin. (Mann, 1986, with permission ). Right Lattice image of a singie domain offerrihy-drite from the inorganic core of a human ferritin moiecuie. The fringes of ca. 0.27 nm correspond to the (110) piane (bar is 2 nm) (courtesy S. Mann). Fig. 17.2 Left A schematic picture of ferritin. (Mann, 1986, with permission ). Figure 3.4.3 (A) The structure of the WOC as seen in the latest crystal structure of Umena et al. [7] (B) Mn OsCa inorganic core seen in the crystal structure of Umena et al. (C) Best geometry-optimized DFT structure of the WOC reported by Ames et al. [33], (D) Optimized DFT structure that contains a protonated 05 bridge. The best DFT structure (C) simultaneously reproduces the EXAFS constraints (i.e. Mn-Mn distances and so forth) and the magnetic resonance data (see Figure 3.4.4). See Ames et al. [33] for further details. Purple spheres - Mn red spheres - oxygen green sphere - Ca. Figure 3.4.3 (A) The structure of the WOC as seen in the latest crystal structure of Umena et al. The FegS inorganic core of the P-cluster has been synthesized from tetramethylthiourea, 2,4,6-triisopropylbenzene-thiol, elemental sulfur, and iron(Il)bis(difrimethylsilylamide) in toluene, in the respective 3/12/7/8 ratio (Figure 3a). The... [Pg.3095]

A pentafunctionalized initiator can be obtained from esterification of /J-D-glucose, and star PMMA with 5 arms are obtained.340 Inorganic cores, other than silicon, can also be employed such as the cyclotriphosphazene (MI-44 and MI-45), which gives 6-arm polymers from styrene, acrylates, and methacrylates.303,358 Tetra- (MI-42)87,332 and hexafunction-alized initiators (MI-4987,332 and MI-50424) with a ruthenium center can be also employed for the radical polymerizations of styrene and MMA in the presence of appropriate catalysts such as copper, ruthenium, and nickel. [Pg.500]
