A reissue may be ordered to correct any minor or major mistake which occurred during prosecution of a patent, but the mistake must be one that makes the patent partially or whoUy inoperable. Inoperable essentially means that the patent caimot be enforced. For instance, a reissue proceeding can be used to correct inventorship or even broaden claims if the patent is less than two years old. However, such a request to broaden claims in the context of reissue may not be undertaken to recover subject matter canceled during examination. Further, a reissue proceeding may be undertaken to correct formal problems or address newly discovered prior art which affects the scope of the claims. The nature of a reissue proceeding directs that this mechanism should be used only when the vaUdity of the patent is in question owing to the error or problem in question. 

Enzymes Degrading Macromolecules. Enzymes that degrade macromolecules such as membrane polysaccharides, stmctural and functional proteins, or nucleic acids, have all shown oncolytic activity. Treatment strategies include the treatment of inoperable tumors with pepsin (1) antitumor activity of carboxypeptidase (44) cytotoxicity of ribonudease (45—47) oncolytic activity of neuraminidase (48—52) therapy with neuraminidase of patients with acute myeloid leukemia (53) antitumor activity of proteases (54) and hyaluronidase treatment in the management of human soHd tumors (55). 

In a countercurrent-type column contactor, stable operation is possible as long as the rate of arrival of droplets in any section does not exceed the coalescence rate at the main interface once this value is exceeded, droplet backup will occur at the interface and slowly build back into the column active area, a condition known as flooding. This is an inoperable condition. 

Low freezing point. If possible, a low freezing point is favored, since any sohdification of the solvent in the column makes the column inoperable. 

A suitable locldug mechanism must ensure that the production plant can be started up again only if the explosion suppression svstem is fiilly operational. The alarm center must be designed so that, if work is performed within the protected vessel, the detectors can be made inoperable and secured against inadvertent triggering. 

Provisions for the removal of fuel in the event the storage tanks primary discharge means becomes inoperable...

The simplest arrangement has only one valve, whieh is loeated upstream of the expander inlet. This valve maintains the desired pressure eontrol of the regenerator (Figure 6-34). It is the least expensive aiTangement, but it does not provide flexibility in operation or upgrading of the reaetor throughput. If the expander is out of serviee, the entire FCC proeess is inoperable. Due to the laek of flexibility, this arrangement is not desirable. 

Trouble (B) Temperature Recorders (Inoperable or Questionable Readings). 

Failure to investigate causes of equipment inoperability and permitting the storage of hazardous material e.g. the failure of tank E610 pressurization... 

In a batch reaction plant, an exothermic reaction was cooled by water circulating in a jacket. The circulating pump failed and the reactor went out of control causing a violent explosion. A low flow alarm was present but was inoperable. A critical pump bearing had not been lubricated during maintenance, and the collapse of the bearing had led to the pump failure. 

Hydrogen fluoride reacts witlr metal carbonates, oxides, and hydroxides. Accumulation of these fluoride compounds can render valves and other close-fitting moving parts inoperable in a process system, causing possible equipment or process failures. Hydrogen fluoride also attacks glass, silicate ceramics, leather, natural rubber, and wood, but does not promote their combustion. 

It is recommended that trays be designed for a minimum of 10% above the lower plate activation values. Below these values the tray will dump liquid and become inoperable. 

Natural gas must always be contained in appropriate pipes or vessels and precautions taken to ensure that leakage cannot occur. If a gas leak does occur, the main gas supply should be shut off, the area ventilated and the gas supplier informed. Electrical switches should not be turned on or off, portable electrical appliances including handheld torches should not be operated and all other possible sources of ignition removed or rendered inoperable and the affected area ventilated. In circumstances of excessive leakage, the building should be evacuated. 

M ale and female hormones play a vital role because they aid in development and maintenance of secondary sex characteristics and are necessary for human reproduction. Although hormones are naturally produced by die body, administration of a male or female hormone may be indicated in the treatment of certain disorders, such as inoperable breast cancer, male hypogonadism, and male or female hormone deficiency. Hormones also are used as contraceptives and for treating the symptoms of menopause... 

When these drugs are given to the female patient with inoperable breast carcinoma, tire nurse evaluates the patient s current status (physical, emotional, and nutritional) carefully and records tire finding in tire patient s chart. Problem areas, such as pain, any limitation of motion, and the ability to participate in tire activities of daily living, are carefully evaluated and recorded in tiie patient s record. The nurse takes and records vital signs and weight. Baseline laboratory tests may include a complete blood count, hepatic function tests, serum electrolytes, and serum and urinary calcium levels. The nurse reviews these tests and notes any abnormalities. 

The nurse weighs the patient with inoperable breast carcinoma daily or as ordered by the primary health care provider. If the patient is on complete bed rest, the nurse may take weights every 3 to 4 days (or as ordered) using a bed scale The nurse notifies the primary health care provider if there is a significant (> 5 lb) increase or decrease in the weight. The nurse checks the lower extremities daily for signs of edema. 

The male patient with inoperable prostatic carcinoma also may have concerns about taking a female hormone. The nurse assures the patient that the dosage is carefully regulated and that feminizing effects, if they occur, are usually minimal.
