Injection blowing

In injection blow mol ding, a parison is injection molded onto a core pin the parison is then rapidly transferred via the core pin to a blow mold, where it is blown by air into an article. This process is appHed to smad and intricate bottles. [Pg.143]

PS or copolymers are used extensively in injection blow mol ding. Tough and cra2e-resistant PS containers have been made by multiaxiaHy oriented injection-molded parisons (238). This process permits the design of blow-molded objects with a high degree of controlled orientation, independent of blow ratio or shape. [Pg.524]

Most PET botties are produced by injection blow mol ding (71) the resin over a steel-core rod. The neck of the bottie is formed with the proper shape to receive closures and resin is provided around the temperature-conditioned rod for the blowing step. The rod with the resin is indexed to the mold, and the resin is blown away from the rod against the mold walls, where it cools to form the transparent bottie. The finished bottie is ejected and the rod is moved again to the injection-molding station. This process is favored for single cylindrical botties, but cannot be used for more complex shapes such as botties with handles. [Pg.268]

Uses reported include motor housings for portable fans, food blender bases, tape storage housings, tough, clear toys, injection blow moulded products and thermoformed packages. [Pg.360]

In Section 4.2.7 we considered the process of extrusion blow moulding which is used to produce hollow articles such as bottles. At that time it was mentioned that if molecular orientation can be introduced to the moulding then the properties are significantly improved. In recent years the process of injection blow moulding has been developed to achieve this objective. It is now very widely used for the manufacture of bottles for soft drinks. [Pg.303]

Energy and bottle An interesting historical (1950s) example is the small injection blow molded whiskey bottles that were substituted for glass blown bottles in commercial aircraft continues to be used in all worldwide flying aircraft. At that time, just in USA, over 500 x 1012 Btu or the amount of energy equivalent to over 80 x 106 barrels of oil was reduced. [Pg.635]

Polyethylene terephthalate is injection blow molded to make water and carbonated drink bottles, and other liquid food packages. High stiffness, excellent clarity, and good resistance to carbon dioxide permeation are the principal attributes of these bottles. We carefully control molding conditions to promote transparency and surface gloss, which are prized for food... [Pg.257]
