The solubility of organic components in water can often be considerably influenced by adding electrolytes. For example, if 1 mol sodium chloride is added to 1 kg of water, the solubility of benzene is reduced by approx. 30% and that of nitrogen by approx. 25% [28]. This reduction of solubility is called salting out As well, a salting in effect exists. For instance, the solubility of methane in water can be increased by adding alkyl ammonium salts [28]. [Pg.398]
