Industrial hydrogen-based fuel

Hydrogen is of interest as a means to deliver gaseous fuel from non-fossil primary energy resources such as nuclear reactors, or high temperature solar collectors. It is believed that hydrogen may phase into the energy market at such a time when fossil-based fuels either become too expensive or environmentally unsatisfactory. Hydrogen and biomass are the only two potentially visible options at the present time for the gas industry if that does take place. [Pg.332]

In process industry hydrogen is a very important feedstock for a large number of processes like the production of ammonia (fertiliser), various hydrogenation reactions and electricity production in gasturbines. In future hydrogen will play an even more important role because of the rise of the hydrogen based society . This becomes already visible in the fuel cell car recently taken in development. [Pg.133]

In the international chemical industry, hydrogen has been for decades one of the most important chemical raw materials for the production of many organic materials. Hydrogen plays a role in making ammonia-based fertilizers, in refining crude oil into petroleum, and in making methanol (which, in addition to its recently discovered potential as a reasonably convenient hydrogen carrier for fuel cell cars, is the basis for resins, varnishes, plastics, solvents, and antifreezes). [Pg.212]
