Industrial fellowships, 201 sponsored

In this program 20 students from predominantly undergraduate institutions were selected to receive 2500 fellowships to conduct research full time, normally during the summer months, with their faculty mentor. For the summer preceding their entrance into graduate school, industrial sponsors offer their awardees the opportunity to work in their corporate research laboratories. These Research Partnerships link student and faculty member with the fellowship sponsor to provide them with an association for mutual identification not otherwise possible. Sponsors in 1990 were American Cyanamid Company (Agricultural Research Division), Eli Lilly and Company, Hewlett-Packard Company, the Merck Company Foundation, Norwich ton Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Pfizer Central Research, Rohm and Haas Company, and SmithKline Beecham Pharmaceuticals.

Handling UKCPA conference communications and the adjudication process requires a scrupulous process to make it work for members. UKCPA has developed a housestyle and is a transparent process of adjudication and feedback to assure the final quality of work presented and published. This applies equally to the adjudication process for the four industry sponsored awards, AstraZeneca Travelling Fellowship Award, the four GlaxoSmithKline Poster Awards, the Pharmacia Pharma-coeconomics Award and the Wyeth Education and Training Award. New awards for 2002 are Unichem Com-munity/Primary Care Pharmacy Award, Napp Palliative Care Award and the Merck Pharmaceuticals for Medicines Management Award.

A central dominant building (its anchor store) usually houses the worship sanctuary, seating thousands, its education and childcare facilities and a fellowship hall with industrial-sized kitchen. Within this structure, countless small meeting rooms accommodate all the groups that the church sponsors in order to promote a feeling of belonging and fellowship.
