Characterization of a Petroleum Cut by Refractive Index, Density, and Molecular Weight (ndM method)... [Pg.42]

Refractive index this is one of the most precise measurements that can be carried out on a petroleum cut. The ASTM method D 1218 indicates a reproducibility of 0.00006, which is exceptional. [Pg.43]

The temperatures 100°F and 210°F (37.8°C, 98.9°C) have been selected because they were initially used in the ASTM procedure for calculating the viscosity index of petroleum cuts (ASTM D 2270). [Pg.95]

Furby (12) has developed a method for evaluating stocks in the lubricating oil range that results in a breakdown of components into asphaltenes, resins, wax, and dewaxed oil and provides a yield-viscosity index relationship for the dewaxed oil. The author has found such analyses very useful and inexpensive for evaluating a large number of potential lubricating oil stocks. Furby s method utilizes petroleum ether to precipitate asphaltenes, a fuller s earth-petroleum ether fractionation to isolate resins, methyl ethyl ketone-benzene dewaxing on the deasphalted-deresinified material to separate wax, and an adsorption fractionation to provide cuts from which the yield-viscosity index relationship for dewaxed, solvent-refined oil is obtained. [Pg.195]

Aspen HYSYS Petroleum Refining includes a method to convert limited feed information (distillation curve, density, viscosity, refractive index, etc.) into kinetic lumps for use in the unit-level FCC model. In this section, we present an alternative method based on data and methods available in the public literature. We extend the work by Bollas et al. [52] to infer the kinetic lump composition from limited process data. This method uses techniques to normalize the distillation curve, cut the distillation curve into boiling-point lumps, and infer the composition of the each of these boiling-point lumps. We have developed all of these techniques into spreadsheets using Microsoft Excel. These spreadsheets are available in the DVD accompanying this text... [Pg.168]
