INDEX mixed oxide

More realistic and complex tlieories consistent with the quite complex nature of the phenomena involved in the DR of light were developed later. Experimental studies have shown that this technique is affected by particle size, granulometric distribution and the refractive index of the particles, which has an important role when the particle size is near the wavelength of the 1R radiation. Diffuse reflectance Fourier transform (DRIFT) studies in the FIR region allow detection of the skeletal spectra of materials, such as mixed oxide catalysts, pigments and metal halides. [Pg.105]

A more relevant example is the one of Fe O if the compound is ionic exists 40 which, from the condition of the global neutrality, each iron atom should be in oxidation state of+8/3, a not very suggestive picture. Instead, the compound can be written as a mixed-oxide state Fe0+Fe203=Fe(II) Fe(III)20. But, the secondary valence, introduced by Werner, indexes the number of the attached groups (both anion and neutral groups) to a metal center through the coordination number of the first coordination sphere. [Pg.161]

Dr. Joe Vinson of the University of Scranton believes that there is something to the chocolate effect, and he came to Belmont to tell us about his intriguing research. Vinson has determined the total polyphenol content of various chocolates and has also found a way of measuring how effective these mixtures are in preventing the oxidation of human ldl in a test tube. In other words, he has calculated a phenol antioxidant index, which takes into account both the quantity and the quality of these desirable substances. At the symposium Vinson reported that cocoa powder and dark chocolate are the best, followed by milk chocolate. Instant cocoa mixes trail the field. Then Vinson delivered the kicker chocolate has more, and better, polyphenols than fruits or vegetables and more than red wine. A forty-gram bar of dark chocolate has as many polyphenols as a cup of that widely promoted antioxidant cocktail we call tea. But there is still the matter of chocolate s fat content. Researchers tell us, though, that at least half of it is stearic acid, which does not raise blood cholesterol. [Pg.115]

The only stable oxide lattices that have so far been of value as mixed metal oxide pigments are those with spinel, rutile, and hematite structures. These lattices possess not only good thermal and chemical stability, but also have a high refractive index which is important for good optical pigment properties. [Pg.99]

The chrome yellow pigments [4344-37-2], C.I. Pigment Yellow 34 77600 and 77603, are pure lead chromate or mixed-phase pigments with the general formula Pb(Cr,S)04 [3.131] (refractive index 2.3-2.65, density ca. 6 g/cm3). Chrome yellow is insoluble in water. Solubility in acids and alkalis and discoloration by hydrogen sulfide and sulfur dioxide can be reduced to a minimum by precipitating inert metal oxides on the pigment particles. [Pg.117]

Gel permeation chromatography (GPC) was used to determine molecular weights and molecular weight distributions, Mw/Mn, of polymer samples. The GPC consisted of an Alliance 2690 pump equipped with a Wyatt Rex Differential Refractive Index Detector and utilized three Polymer Labs PL Mixed B GPC Columns at 70°C (DMF) or 40°C (THF) at a flow rate of 1.0 mL/min. The molecular weights were calculated relative to the retention times of polystyrene and polyethylene oxide standards for DMF or polystyrene and polytetrahydrofuran standards for THF using Empower software. [Pg.209]
