INDEX inorganic reagents

Preparative aspects of inorganic chemistry are covered by the Encyclopedia of Chemical Reactions compiled by C. A. Jacobson and C. A. Hampel (Reinhold, 1946-59) which lists known chemical reactions in eight volumes. Elements are arranged alphabetically by their chemical symbol and for each its reactions with other elements or compounds are listed, with the formula, a comment and the bibliographic reference. Each volume contains an index to reagents and to substances obtained, arranged alphabetically by formula. [Pg.142]

Most chemicals used in the procedure will appear in the index. Thus, there will generally be entries for all starting materials, reagents, intermediates, important by-products, and final products. Most products shown in the Tables in the discus.sion sections of this volume are included unless the compounds are quite similar in which case a general descriptive name was entered. Chemicals generally nut indexed included coiimion solvents, standard inorganic acids and bases, reactants shown in the Tables, and compounds cited in the discussion section in connection with other methods of preparation. [Pg.245]

In addition to the examples discussed above, where the hybrid materials were derived from the alkoxides of the transition metals, it is necessary to mention that M(OR) (M = Ti, Zr) are the typical inorganic chain-forming reagents often added to the silicon alkoxides to play the cross-linking role between the organosilicon units, which increases the hardness and the refractive index of the hybrid materials. M(OR)n were also found to catalyze the condensation of siloxanes. [Pg.158]

A set of solutions of the various inorganic ions is very desirable so that control tests may be made. Equally important is a stock of typical representatives of the various classes of organic compounds which should be kept in readiness for comparison purposes. A collection of plant products, standard preparations of chemicals, minerals and different technical products will be found of great value in the preliminary examination of unknown materials. It is also well to provide a card index with simple working directions in the immediate neighborhood of the necessary reagents. [Pg.35]
