The effect of filler on polymer melts is discussed in several papers. Figure 9.30 shows that the melt flow index decreases rapidly on calcium carbonate addition. The changes as concentration increases are much less pronounced. This study was conducted for a large particle sized (50-400 pm) grade of calcium carbonate. [Pg.481]

Obviously, aggregate size distribution characterization in the mix is very delicate. Some transmission electron microscopy observations have been conducted on microtome thin cuts, but such characterizations are restricted to a small number of aggregates and can only lead to qualitative conclusions [23]. Direct characterization of object distribution in tie mix has also been conducted using x-ray [105] or neutron diffraction, but such approaches are strongly limited by the high concentration of filler objects and their refraction index, which is relatively close to that of rubber. One other way to characterize object size distribution is to extract the filler from the mix by thermal or catalyzed polymer decomposition these procedures probably greatly affect object size, because of possible reagglomerations. [Pg.382]

Depending on the physical properties and size of fillers, the behavior of particle-filled suspensions and filled polymer compounds change. Such properties primarily include particle density, shape, and interaction. To these might be added particle hardness, refractive index, thermal conductivity, electrical conductivity, and magnetic properties. [Pg.73]

The ODF sealant is dispensed by a dispensing machine after mixing with gap material and conductive material and filled in a syringe under vacuum by the LCD manufacturer. The viscosity and the thixotropic index of the ODF sealant depend largely on dispensing properties, and the optimal combinatirHi of resin and fillers is important, too. [Pg.201]
