An opacifier is sometimes added to the Softgel shell to obtain an opaque shell for suspension fills or to protect light sensitive fill ingredients. Titanium dioxide is the most commonly used opacifier. Flavors such as ethyl vanillin and essential oils are sometimes included in the Softgel shell to impart desirable odors or flavors or to offset odoriferous materials that may be contained within the Softgel itself. [Pg.421]

In soft gelatin capsules, powdered cellulose may be used to teduce the sedimentation rate of oily suspension fills. It is also used as the powder base material of powder dosage forms, and as a suspending agent in aqueous suspensions for peroral delivery. It may also be used to reduce sedimentation during the manufacture of suppositories. [Pg.136]

Starch is often modified by hydrolysis with hydrochloric or sulfuric acid (93). The resulting product is resistant to syneresis, keeps food in suspension after cooking, and exhibits much greater free2e—thaw stabUity than unmodified starch. Modified starch is commonly used in baby food, fro2en prepared foods, pie fillings, meat products, and candy. [Pg.444]

In fluorescent lamps, phosphors are coated on the inside of the lamp tube using a slurry containing the powder and a Hquid which is either poured down through the tube, up-flushed, or in some cases the tubes are filled and then drained. Because of concerns over having volatile organic solvents in the air, the hquid medium containing the powder is usually water with an added agent, a thickener, to increase the viscosity of the suspension, such as poly(methacryhc... [Pg.286]
