Demands for improved efficiency in aircraft gas turbines led to the use of a family of age hardenable, controlled expansion superaHoys for engine seals and casings. INCOLOY aHoys 903 [61107-16-2] (UNS N19903), 907 [107652-23-3] (UNS N19907), and 909 evolved from a continuing effort to improve the environmental resistance of this Cr-free, Fe—Ni—Co based system.

Other members of the medium-alloy group are Incoloy 825 and Hastelloy G-3 and G-30. Wrought Incoloy 825 has 40 percent Ni, 21 percent Cr, 3 percent Mo, and 2.25 percent Cu. Hastelloy G-3 contains 44 percent Ni, 22 percent Cr, 6.5 percent Mo, and 0.05 percent C maximum. 

The present trend of material seleeted for collection headers is toward Incoloy 800. The cast alloys used, HK and HT, have failed in most instances because of their inherently low ductility—especially after exposure to elevated temperature. It now appears that wrought alloys should be used in preference to cast alloys unless the higher creep strength of the east alloy is required and the inherently low ductility of the aged cast alloy is considered in the design. 

For hydrogen reformer transfer lines, materials used are Incoloy 800, HK, and HT cast stainless steels. Wrought 300 series stainless steels and internally insulated carbon, carbon-V2, Mo. and IV4 Cr- /2 Mo steels. Reported failures of transfer lines indicate that failures are associated with... 

The construction materials for the plates include most corrosion-resistant metals, usually 304SS, 316SS, titanium, Incoloy 825 , Hastelloy , and others, plus nonmetallic fused graphite, and fluoroplastic Diabon F . Typical gaskets between the plates include nitrile rubber, butyl, and EPDM elastromers, Hypalon and Viton , based on the various manufacturers literature.
