In elastomers

The degree of polymerization of the subchain is n. If the degree of polymerization of the molecule as a whole is n, then there are n/n subchains per molecule. We symbolize the number of subchains per molecule as N. Other properties of the subchain-which, incidentally, should not be confused with the chains between crosslink points in elastomers-will also have the subscript s as they emerge. [Pg.185]

Tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol is used in elastomer production. As a solvent for the polymerization initiator, it finds appHcation in the manufacture of chlorohydrin mbber. Additionally, tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol is used as a catalyst solvent-activator and reactive diluent in epoxy formulations for a variety of apphcations. Where exceptional moisture resistance is needed, as for outdoor appHcations, furfuryl alcohol is used jointly with tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol in epoxy adhesive formulations. [Pg.83]

Materials of Construction and Operational Stress. Before a centrifugal separation device is chosen, the corrosive characteristics of the Hquid and soHds as weU as the cleaning and saniti2ing solutions must be deterrnined. A wide variety of materials may be used. Most centrifuges are austenitic stainless steels however, many are made of ordinary steel, mbber or plastic coated steel. Monel, HasteUoy, titanium, duplex stainless steel, and others. The solvents present and of course the temperature environment must be considered in elastomers and plastics, including composites. [Pg.404]

The classic model that describes chain scission in elastomers was proposed many years ago by Lake and Thomas [26J. The aim of the model is to calculate the energy dissipated in breaking all the polymer strands that have adjacent cross-links on either side of the crack plane. The basic assumption of this model is that all the main chain bonds in any strand that breaks must be strained to the dissociation... [Pg.237]

Phase separation is usually only important in elastomers, thermoplastics, and fibers with excellent mechanical properties for applications like conveyor belts, tool housings, and spandex textiles. For many other material types, such as foams... [Pg.220]
