Immobilization reagent

Selectivity is an important consideration in analytical chemistry. Biologically derived polymers can be used as highly selective immobilized reagents in analytical appHcations. The first reported use of immobilized biopolymers as biosensors (qv) for the detection of an analyte was made in 1962 (48). Since that first reported use there has been a great deal of development and appHcation of immobilized biopolymers in analytical chemistry. 

Separation and detection methods There exists an array of methods for the separation of the Sb species, ranging from liquid-liquid extraction to the formation of complexes with immobilized reagents, followed by HPLC or reversed phase chromatography, and eletroanalytical methods. Detection is based on spectrophotometric measurement, AAS, ICP-OES and ICP-MS.

As stated above, the beginning of optical pH sensor technology remains hidden. What is nowadays refered to as a sensor layer was formerly mostly refered to as a test strip, a dry reagent chemistry, or an immobilized reagent.
