Identifying the Leaders

The boards of directors of these companies were examined in order to determine patterns of commonality in the leadership of sustainability initiatives. A number of findings emerged that may prove valuable to the leaders of other chemical companies who are looking for ways to employ the tenets of sustainable development in their corporate governance strategy. [Pg.475]

Textbooks and educational courses may provide the principles of leadership, but it is human application and successes that identify the leader. Leaders are people who need to take responsibility for running an organization, at the same time as accommodating factors beyond their control. [Pg.6]

The observers were asked to identify the leader of the group. In same-sex groups, the person sitting at the head of the table was reliably identified as the leader. In mixed-sex groups, a man at the head of the table was reliably identified as the leader. But in mixed-sex groups when a woman was at the head, observers sometimes labeled her as the leader and about equally often labeled a man seated elsewhere at the table as the leader. There were no differences between male and female observers. There was no intention to discriminate. The implication of this experiment is that the symbolic position of leadership carries less weight for a woman than a man. Women are less likely to obtain the automatic deference that marks of leadership confer for men. Women are objectively hurt in situations of that sort, even though observers intend no harm. [Pg.28]

Nonetheless, the goal of AMR s rankings of the Supply Chain Top 25 is to raise the importance of supply chain management and its potential to positively impact companies profitability. By identifying the leaders and their best practices, the hope is that other companies can learn from them and improve their supply chain performance. [Pg.18]

Just informing the leader that he was perceived as Indecisive would not have been constructive. In fact, it could have been counterproductive if he responded by making ill-informed decisions just to address the perceptions of others. But once the behaviors that led his reports to characterize him as indecisive were identified, the leader was able to develop a simple plan to change the way others viewed him. [Pg.235]

The HAZOP team consisted of a HAZOP leader, scribe, process engineer, senior operator, and afety engineer. Previously, the HAZOP leader collected information on the process design (e.g P lDs, operating procedures, emergency procedures and incident reports) for distribution to each team men The leader sectioned the process and identified process deviations prior to the HAZOP. [Pg.441]

Once you have identified the skills and viewpoints you need, your next step is to consider how this group—which may be very disparate—can work best together. As the person convening the team you are effectively its leader, and... [Pg.51]

The reaction of MnC03 is of particular interest because of the possibility of the formation and interconversion of the various oxides of manganese [733,1276], Westerdahl and Leader [762] identify the initial process as... [Pg.173]

They use a fleet of unmarked vans to grab targeted children from parks and schoolyards. In doing so they use children within their organization as decoys to attract the victims close to the vans where they are grabbed by adults. They then drug the children and transport them to a series of safe houses for safe keeping. They are then used in their ceremonies for body parts, sex slaves and some are auctioned off at various locations in the northern hemisphere. In the past they have been auctioned off near a location in Nevada and Toronto, Canada. Marion David Pettie, the leader of the cult, is an identified homosexual pedophile and a CIA officer. His son was an employee of a CIA proprietary firm, Air America, which was notorious for... [Pg.17]

Fig. 2. An example of a complex multidomain protein that includes both domain concatenation and intercalation. (A) See color insert. RASMOL view of phosphotransferase pyruvate kinase (pdb entry lpkn) colored to show the three identifiable domains. Blue is the j3 barrel regulatory domain, orange is an eightfold a/fi barrel, the catalytic substrate binding domain, and green is a central /3, a/(B nucleotide binding domain. Not displayed is the leader subsequence composed of a random coil and short helix. (B) Linear order along the sequence of these components. Fig. 2.
