Identification test for RS cationic bitumen emulsion

The identification test is conducted for identifying RS cationic bitumen emulsion. This is achieved by the inability to coat specific silica sand particles. [Pg.205]

The test method differs from the usual coating test because the material passes the requirement when it fails to coat the specified silica sand. [Pg.205]

According to ASTM D 244 (2009), a 35 g sample of bitumen emulsion is added to 465 g of pure silica sand, which has been treated with 5% hydrochloric acid solution and washed and is mixed vigorously with a spatula for approximately 2 min. Any emulsion excess is then removed and the mixture is spread in an absorbent paper for visual estimation of coated or uncoated area in the mixture. An excess of uncoated area over coated area is considered as a passing rating for identification of rapid-setting cationic bitumen emulsion. [Pg.205]
