Identification application

Qualitative (identification) applications depend upon the comparison of the retention characteristics of the unknown with those of reference materials. In the case of gas chromatography, this characteristic is known as the retention index and, although collections of data on popular stationary phases exist, it is unlikely that any compound has a unique retention index and unequivocal identification can be effected. In liquid chromatography, the situation is more complex because there is a much larger number of combinations of stationary and mobile phases in use, and large collections of retention characteristics on any single system do not exist. In addition, HPLC is a less efficient separation... [Pg.25]

The nucleotide sequence databases can be screened by a number of sequence similarity tools and some protein identification applications, such as SEQUEST [58]. As it is difficult to predict coding sequences from raw genomic data, and in some cases the authors have not submitted the information to the database, the tools propose protein hits from translated raw DNA sequences. [Pg.540]

Inspections are conducted by specifically trained employees, and all items are corrected promptly and appropriately. Workplace inspections are planned, with key observations or check points defined and results documented. Persons conducting inspections have specific training in hazard identification applicable to the facility. Corrections are documented through follow-up inspections. Results are available to workers. ... [Pg.438]

Scanning Speed. The function of this control is self-explanatory. In the more versatile instruments the scanning speed may be adjusted continuously over factors of several hundred. In the less versatile instruments there is generally a choice of two fixed scanning speeds, in a ratio of three or four to one. It should be noted in the latter case that only the slower available speed may be relied on for providing the full photometric accuracy of which the instrument is capable. The faster speed is provided for fast survey scans, for quick identification applications where photometric accuracy is not critical. [Pg.51]

In a real-world structural identification application, where no information is available regarding the true pdfs of the input random vector, someone could use maximum likelihood estimation fitting of the environmental condition data values to a parametric distribution. The results of such a fitting of the data onto pdfs are shown in Fig. 5. Based on this fitting and after transforming the pdf of the mass load into a normal distribution by using the natural logarithm, the Hermite polynomials may be selected for the construction of the multivariate PC basis functions. [Pg.3504]
