Ictalurus punctatus

Color Individuals less than 12 to 14 in. (305 to 356 mm) are pale blue to pale olive with silvery overcast Adults with dorsal surface of head and back, and upper side steel-blue to gray, lower sides lighter, ventral surface of head, and body to pelvic fins, dirty white to silver-white barbels are darkly colored. [Pg.108]

Systematic notes There was, for many years, considerable taxonomic and nomenclatural confusion associated with what we now recognize as this species. Differences in shape and color, now known to be associated with sex, size, season, and locality were once construed to be indicative of several different species or subspecies. [Pg.108]

Distribution Restricted to the fresh waters, and to a limited extent brackish waters, of east and central North America. [Pg.108]

Biology Locally abundant in certain parts of Canada but poorly known very little published information. [Pg.108]

Description Has a very deep, compressed body and individuals are usually 7 to 8 in. (178 to 203 mm) in length. [Pg.108]

Fish rapidly absorb, metabolize, and excrete chlorpyrifos from the diet (Barron etal. 1991). The mechanism of action of chlorpyrifos occurs via phosphorylation of the active site of acetylcholinesterase after initial formation of chlorpyrifos oxon by oxidative desulfuration. In studies with channel catfish (Ictalurus punctatus), the oral bioavailability of chlorpyrifos was 41%, substantially higher than in mammals. Catfish muscle contained less than 5% of the oral dose with an... [Pg.889]
