Poly (ethylene oxide) macromonomers72 761 are made in a similar way, as the alkoxide end group is reactive enough towards benzylic halides. With methacryloyl chloride, side reactions are involved. It is better to first protonate the PEO, and then to have it react with methacryloyl chloride in the presence of some triethyl amine. One can also react co-hydroxy polyethylene oxide) with methacryloyl imidazole, or with methacrylic acid in the presence of dicyclohexyl carbodiimide (DCCf)77). 

Mit Hydroxylamin statt Ammoniak werden 1-Hydroxy-imidazoI-3-oxide gebildet21 21b, die durch katalytische Hydrierung zu 1-Hydroxy-imidazolcn reduziert werden konnen21b (s. S, 105). Hier sei darauf hingewiesen, dafi bei der Destination von /- Methoxy-imidazol-3-oxid bei 150-180° eine Explosion beobachtet wurde70. l-Hydroxy-imidazol-3-oxid crwies sich eben-falls als explosionsgefahrlich70. 

Diese Reaktion ist eng verwandt mit der Radziszewski-Reaktion (s. S. 4), bei der aus oc-Dicar-bonyl-Verbindungen, Hydroxylamin und Aldehyden l-Hydroxy-imidazol-3-oxide gebildet werden. Ersetzt man den Ammoniak bei der Diels-Reaktion durch Hydroxylamin, werden ebenfalls l-Hydroxy-imidazol-3-oxide erhalten67 ... 

Hier sei darauf hingewiesen, daC bei der Destination von l-Methoxy-imidazol-3-oxid bei 150-180 eine Explosion beobachtet wurde70. l-Hydroxy-imidazol-3-oxid erwies sich ebenfalls als explosionsgefShrlich70. 

Dioxime kondensieren mit Aldehyden oder deren Oximen in Wasser oder Wasser/Alkohol-Gemischen unter Katalyse mit Salzsaure zu l-Hydroxy-imidazol-3-oxiden280-282. Diese Reaktion ist mit den auf S. 4-9, 20-23 beschriebenen Synthesen verwandt. Hier sei nochmals darauf hingewiesen, dafi sich 1-Hydroxy-imidazol-3-oxide in reiner Form explosionsartig zer-setzen konnen. 

Bis-[hydroxyimino]-ethan (R1 = R2 = H) kondensiert mit Formaldehyd zu 1-Hydroxy-imida-zol-3-oxid und mit sich selbst zu 2-(Hydroximino-methyl)-J-hydroxy-imidazol-3-oxidZ8Z. Analog erhalt man aus l,2-Bis-[tert.-butylimino]-ethan unter Katalyse mit Chlorwasserstoff in Toluol 2-(tert.-Butylimino-methyl)-lJ-di-tert.-butyl-imidazolium-chlorid283 ...

The only example of ring-chain tautomerism of imidazoles is 1-hydroxy-4 -imidazoline-3-oxide (69MI86 78MI2, pp. 155,182). 

A strictly dehned region of chemical shifts of C2, C4, and C5 atoms in A-oxides of 4A-imidazoles allows to dehne clearly the position of the A-oxide oxygen atom (102). Chemical shifts of the a-C nitrone group in a-N-, O-, and S-substituted nitrones are located in the region of 137 to 150 ppm (388, 413). On the basis of 13C NMR analysis of 3-imidazoline-3-oxide derivatives, the position of tautomeric equilibria in amino-, hydroxy-, and mercapto- nitrones has been estimated. It is shown that tautomeric equilibria in OH- and SH-derivatives are shifted toward the oxo and thioxo forms (approximately 95%), while amino derivatives remain as amino nitrones (413). In the compounds with an intracyclic amino group, an aminonitrone (A) - A-hydroxyaminoimino (B) tautomeric equilibrium was observed (Scheme 2.76), depending on both, the nature of the solvent and the character of the substituent in position 2 of the heterocycle (414). 

On studying electrochemical properties of l-hydroxy-3-imidazoline-3-oxides and their conversion into nitronyl nitroxyl radicals (NNR), the intermediate production of a nonaromatic radical cation (220) of AH -imidazole-1,3- dioxides (219) (Scheme 2.78) (101) was suggested. 

Bei Verwendung von Formaldehyd als Aldehyd-Komponente wurden mil mehreren unter-schiedlichen a-Hydroximino-ketonen keine Imidazol-3-oxide, sondern 2-Hydroxy-imidazo-le erhalten, die als tautomere 2-Oxo-2,3-dihydro-imidazole vorliegen71b.

Imidazole sind der N-Oxidation mit Persauren im allgemeinen nicht zuganglich449. Der einzige Hinweis in der Literatur auf die Herstellung von 1 -Hydroxy-imidazolen oder Imidazol-3-oxiden durch Oxidation von Imidazolen ist die Herstellung von 1,1 -Dihydroxy-2,2 -bi-imid-... 

Durch Reduktion von 1-Hydroxy-2,4,5-trimethyl-imidazol-3-oxid mit Natriumhydrogensulfit wird 2,4.5-Trimethyl-imidazol in 20% Ausbeute erhalten510. 

Die enzymatische Oxidation von 4(5)-(2-Amino-3-hydroxy-propyl)-imidazol fiihrt je nach ver-wendetem Mikroorganismus zu Histidin oder zu Urocaninsaure (Bd. IV/la, S.987). 

Ethoxycarbonyl-l-hydroxy-benzimidazol wird offensichtlich auch bei der Umsetzung von Benzofurazan-l-oxid mit (Ethoxycarbonyl-methylen)-triphenyl-phosphoran als Zwischenpro-dukt durchlaufen nach weiterer Reaktion mit (Ethoxycarbonyl-methylen)-triphenyl-phospho-ran wird letztlich ein Gemisch aus J-Ethoxy-2-ethoxycarbonyl- und 2-Ethoxycarhonyl-henz-imidazol erhalten299.
