Hydrostatic Testing of Cylinders and Tubes

Methods used for hydrostatic testing of compressed gas cylinders and tubes are as follows  [Pg.180]

For any of the methods for hydrostatic testing, while the design and details of the apparatus may be adapted to suit individual requirements for a particular installation, the safety recommendations outlined in CGA C-1, Methods for Hydrostatic Testing of Compressed Gas Cylinders, should be followed. [18] Only properly trained personnel should be employed to perform the hydrostatic testing. [Pg.180]

Regardless of the type of hydrostatic testing method used, DOT and TC regulations both specify that the periodic retest must include an external and internal visual examination of the cylinder. It is recommended that these inspections be conducted prior to the hydrostatic retest in accordance with the applicable Compressed Gas Association standards. See references [13] through [16] and [20]. External and internal inspection considerations were discussed more thoroughly in previous sections of this chapter. [Pg.180]

Experience in the inspection of cylinders is an important factor in determining the acceptability of a given cylinder for continued service. Those lacking this experience and having cylinders of doubtful acceptability should return them to a manufacturer of the same type of cylinders or to a competent requalification agency for reinspection. [Pg.180]

Each high pressure steel cylinder, standing alone, must be given a hammer test by tap- [Pg.180]
