Specifications, Shipping, and Analysis. Hydrogen fluoride is shipped in bulk in tank cars (specification 112S400W) and tank tmcks (specification MC312). A small volume of overseas business is shipped in ISO tanks. Bulk shipments are made of anhydrous HF as well as 70% aqueous solutions. A small amount of aqueous solution may be shipped as 50%. Cars and tmcks used for anhydrous HF transport are of carbon steel constmction. It is possible to ship 70% aqueous in steel from a corrosion standpoint however, mbber lining is commonly used to eliminate iron pickup, which is detrimental to product quaUty in a number of appHcations. Ammonium cyanide reacts with ketones (qv) to yield aminonitriles. Reaction of ammonium cyanide with glyoxal produces glycine. Because of its unstable nature, ammonium cyanide is not shipped or sold commercially. Unless it is kept cool and dry, decomposition releases vapors and forms black hydrogen cyanide polymer. [Pg.386]

Triacetin resistance is especially critical when filter tips are made in one location, stored, and then shipped to another location. For these operations, polyethylene-based adhesives are used because of their low polarity and therefore excellent resistance to triacetin. Where filter plugs are attached at the same location shortly after production, EVA-based adhesives are suitable and preferred. Both types of adhesives use low odor, clean tackifiers such as hydrogenated hydrocarbons or pure monomer resins (typically a-methylstyrene based). Rosin, rosin esters, and phenol-containing tackifiers are not acceptable. EVA-based adhesives use a higher level of wax (about 1 /3 of the formula) than polyethylene-based adhesives (5-20% wax) due to the lower crystallinity and slower set of EVA vs. PE.
