For hydrogen electrodes having hydrochloric acid as electrolyte within the range of validity of the Debye-Hiickel limiting law the mean activity coefficient of HCl (wJhci < 0.01 mol kg ) is set equal to the single-ion activity coefficient of the hydrogen ion [12]. The molar mean activity coefficient of HCl, y Hci. at various temperatures is best known at the molality 0.01 mol kg [13]. These values are for instance used in the primary method for pH to determine the standard potential of the silver/silver chloride.
