The following drug interactions were reported for metronidazole, a chemically related nitroimidazole. Therefore, these drug interactions may occur with tinidazole. Drugs that may affect tinidazole include cholestyramine, CYP3A4 inducers and inhibitors and oxytetracycline. Drugs that may be affected by tinidazole include alcohols, anticoagulants, cyclosporine, tacrolimus, disulfiram, fluorouracil, hydantoins, and lithium. 

Significant drug-drug interactions are those that potentiate the effects of other agents and require dosage modification. These include certain anticoagulants, hypoglycemic sulfonylureas, and hydantoin anticonvulsants. 

Drugs that may interact with folic acid include aminosalicylic acid, oral contraceptives, dihydrofolate reductase inhibitors (eg, methotrexate, trimethoprim), sulfasalazine, hydantoins. 

Drugs that may affect amiodarone include hydantoins, cholestyramine, fluoroquinolones, rifamycins, ritonavir, and cimetidine. Drugs that may be affected by amiodarone include anticoagulants, beta-blockers, calcium channel blockers, cyclosporine, dextromethorphan, digoxin, disopyramide, fentanyl, flecainide, hydantoins, lidocaine, methotrexate, procainamide, quinidine, and theophylline. Drugs that may interact with disulfiram include alcohol, benzodiazepines, caffeine, chlorzoxazone, cocaine, hydantoins, isoniazid, metronidazole, theophylline, tricyclic antidepressants, and warfarin. 

Drugs that may interact with sulfonamides include oral anticoagulants, cyclosporine, hydantoins, methotrexate, and sulfonylureas. 

Drugs that may interact with isoniazid include acetaminophen, carbamazepine, chlorzoxazone, disulfiram, enflurane, hydantoins, ketoconazole, rifampin, and theophylline. 

Drugs that may interact with rifabutin include the following Anticoagulants, azole antifungal agents, benzodiazepines, beta blockers, buspirone, corticosteroids, cyclosporine, delavirdine, doxycycline, hydantoins, indinavir, rifamycins, losartan, macrolide antibiotics, methadone, morphine, nelfinavir, quinine, quinidine, theophylline, aminophylline, tricyclic antidepressants, and zolpidem. 

Drugs that may interact with acyclovir include hydantoins, probenecid, theophylline, valproic acid, and zidovudine. 

Dantrolene is a hydantoin derivative related to phenytoin that has a unique mechanism of spasmolytic activity. In contrast to the centrally active drugs, dantrolene reduces skeletal muscle strength by interfering with excitation-contraction coupling in the muscle fibers. The normal contractile response involves release of calcium from its stores in the sarcoplasmic reticulum (see Figures 13-1 and 27-10). This activator calcium brings about the tension-generating interaction of actin with myosin. Calcium is released from the sarcoplasmic reticulum via a calcium channel, sometimes called the ryanodine receptor channel because the plant alkaloid ryanodine combines with a receptor on the channel protein and, in the case of the skeletal muscle channel, locks it in the open position.
