High stacks

High stack temperature can be the result of an improper air to fuel mixture. A leak of combustible material from the process side to the firetube is also a cause. It can also be the result of excessive soot deposition in the firetube. 

Forkdift drivers need to be skilled, experienced, and safetyconscious, since the misplacement of a pallet on a high stack can present a serious hazard. They work in well-insulated protective clothing and in short spells within a shift if the room is much below 0°C. Fork-lift trucks are available with enclosed, heated driver s cabs. Extra staff are required if the traffic is constant. Targe stores will have a wide loading platform outside at floor level to permit fork-lift trucks to manoeuvre their loads onto vehicles. 

Natural draft is a low capital cost option, but the draft requirements tend to lead to high stack temperature with a low efficiency for the furnace. Forced draft and induced draft are higher capital cost options than natural draft but tend to lead to higher furnace efficiencies as the stack temperature can be lowered significantly. 

Better collection methods are needed for stack measurements. Virtual Impactors or other devices that avoid the bounce-off problems of cascade Impactors should be developed. Methods for collection of very large amounts of size-segregated particles suitable for detailed organic analyses are needed. Better low-blank filter and collection-surface materials that can withstand high stack temperatures are needed. Careful attention should be given to the determination of vapor-phase species of volatile elements and compounds. 

The dilute acid was then concentrated at atmospheric pressure, producing a reusable acid but also a number of troublesome by-products. Sulfur trioxide vapor was produced as the acid became more concentrated. This produced an intolerable fog, so electrostatic precipitators were installed and the remaining vapor was decomposed by heat into sulfur dioxide which was discharged from a high stack.

About ten two-foot high stacks of newspapers carried always in the bomb vehicle should protect a lot of property. 

A further requirement to be satisfied by the oxidant supply device is represented by dynamic performance in a wide range of air flow rates. This aspect is crucial in some hybrid power train operative modes characterized by high stack dynamics (full power or soft hybrid configurations, see Sect. 5.5). 

The ability for a neck to accept a vertical load is shown in Figure 6.8. High stacking strength is a recognised feature with glass. 

As stacks grow higher and weights increase, specialised and more costly high stacking trucks, cranes and robots could be employed. Manoeuvrability of these is vital as this relates to overall space utilisation (See Costs ).
