Another thick walled cylindrical, stainless steel, vessel(4 in Figure 1), inside diameter 0.03 m and inside length 0.075 m also capable of withstanding an internal pressure of 5250 p.s.i.g. is mounted close to the inlet feed of the high pressure test cell. Laboratory studies were done with flat-sheet membrane. Membrane coupons were mounted as disks in high pressure test cells. With safety considerations CO2 in nitrogen (instead of methane) was used as feed in order to avoid the explosion potential with... 

Field studies were done with commercial-scale spiral wound modules. Membrane, spacers and adhesives were wound around the central permeate pipe to form the module. Modules were both vacuum and high pressure tested to insure integrity. 

To the author s knowledge, these data, along with the high activity achieved using PtML/AuNis/C (same high-pressure test conditions) and MEA mass activities for PtML/Pd/C and PtML/PdgAu/C, represent the best performances achieved so far in MEA testing of core-shell samples. These systems all show 2-3.5 times activity enhancement over Pt/C comparative samples in MEA tests.

The results of the post-test measurements of the low-pressure test ST-1 (Allen et al., 1990) showed, besides extensive volatilization of cesium, a high release of europium ( 20%), the overwhelming fraction of which redeposited in the upper fuel region. In contrast, only very low tellurium volatilization was observed. This unusual behavior, which was qualitatively confirmed by the results of the high-pressure test ST-2, is clearly due to the strongly reducing environment and, thus, is only of limited relevance for LWR accident conditions.

Testing was conducted in the CCL-7 facility at GRC. Two LAD screen samples were tested, a 200 X 1400 and 325 x 2300 Dutch Twill screen. The thickness of the 200 x 1400 and 325 X 2300 screen samples were 152 and 89 jim, respectively. Screen samples were each mounted onto a 2.38 cm tall, 5.08 cm (2 in.) OD cup as shown in Figure 6.1. Note that the LAD cup used in the high-pressure tests was smaller than the screen and cup assembly used in the low-pressure LH2 bubble point tests.
