High phthalocyanine pigments

Phthalocyanine pigments, which show high tinctorial strength, provide an excellent ratio of strength versus price. The strongest member is a-Copper Phthalocyanine Blue, while yellowish Copper Phthalocyanine Green is the weakest representative. 

The photoconductivity of organic dyes, especially phthalocyanine pigments, could be utilized to provide reusable or non-reusable electrophotographic plates having sensitivities that extend over the entire visible spectrum and produce high-contrast images 167,168) Microcrystalline dispersions of metal-free phthalocyanine in suitable binders have a white-light sensitivity equal to that of selenium 169> and can be incorporated into coated papers and drums. 

At higher cooling rates the crystallization conditions for formation of the f form are less favorable. On the surface of the phthalocyanine pigment only a nudei are formed. The growth of nuclei leads to formation of the high crystalline structure built only from a crystals.

In recent years, several excellent treatises on copper phthalocyanine pigments have been written, focusing on the synthesis, properties and traditional applications of this remarkable family of truly high performance pigments. In no way is the objective in this chapter to replicate such stand-alone works rather it is to expand the reader s horizon to include several of the more high performance and non-tradi-tional application areas which continue to extend the creative possibilities for this class of product. 

Like many of the high-performance pigments such as quinacridones, DPPs and phthalocyanine pigments, THI pigments can exist in more than one crystal form. So far, three different crystal modifications with different crystal packings have been identified.
