The Hi Pure Process is a variation of the Benfield process. (Compare Figure 5.36 to Figure 5.37196.) It uses two stages of scrubbing by hot potassium carbonate solution to reduce the CO2 content of gases to very low levels1. [Pg.146]

Carbosolvan One of the several processes for absorbing carbon dioxide from gases, using hot potassium carbonate solution. See also Benfield, Carsol, CATACARB, Giammarco-Vetrocoke, Hi-Pure. [Pg.50]

CATACARB [Catalyzed removal of carbon dioxide] A process for removing carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulfide from gas streams by absorption in hot potassium carbonate solution containing a proprietary catalyst. Developed and licensed by Eickmeyer and Associates, KS, based on work at the U.S. Bureau of Mines in the 1950s. More than a hundred plants were operating in 1997. See also Benfield, Carsol, Hi-pure, Giammarco-Vetrocoke. [Pg.53]

Capacity Element Now consider the case where the valve in Fig. 8-7 is replaced with a pump. In this case, it is reasonable to assume that the exit flow from the tank is independent of the level in the tank. For such a case, Eq. (8-22) still holds, except that/i no longer depends on hi. For changes in fi, the transfer function relating changes in to changes in is shown in Fig. 8-10. This is an example of a pure capacity process, also called an integrating system. The cross sectional area of the tank is the chemical process equivalent of an electrical capacitor. If the inlet flow is step forced while the outlet is held... [Pg.722]

Sperry turned his attention to the American Can Company s huge amount of scrap metal remaining after round can tops were pressed from square sheets. He and his colleagues refined American Can s electrolytic detmning process to deal with this scrap so that absolutely pure tin powder resulted. In 1907 and 1908, Speriy was involved m patent interference cases concerning this detiiiiiiiig process. The outcome was that... [Pg.1081]
