Z,Z,Z,)-9,12,15-octadecatrienoic acid). Fish oils contain esters of eicosanoic and docosanoic acids with four to six double bonds separated by single methylene groups, eg, (i7//-Z)-4,7,10,13,16,19-docosahexaenoic acid [6217-54-5] in menhaden oil (4). The fatty acid with conjugated double bonds in tung oil is a-eleostearic acid [506-23-0] ((F,Z,F)-9,ll,13-octadecatrienoic acid) the predominant fatty acid in oiticica oil is licanic acid [17699-20-6] (4-oxo-(F,Z,F)-9,ll,13-octadecatrienoic acid). In all oils, other fatty acids including palmitic acid [57-10-3] (hexadecanoic acid), stearic acid [57-11-4] (octadecanoic acid), and oleic acid [112-80-1] ((Z)-9-octadecenoic acid) also are present. [Pg.259]

Hexadecanoic acid (palmitic acid) [57-10-3] M 256.4, m 62-63°, b 215°/15mm, pK 6.46 (50% aq EtOH), 5.0 (H2O). Purified by slow (overnight) recrystn from hexane. Some samples were also crystd from acetone, EtOH or EtOAc. Crystals were stood in air to lose solvent, or were pumped dry of solvent on a vaeuum line. [Iwahashi et al. J Chem Soc, Faraday Trans 1 81 973 1985, pK White J Am Chem Soc 72 1858 1950]. [Pg.255]

Acylation of mesoionic pyrido[l,2-u]pyrimidin-4-ones 150 with aroyl chlorides in the presence of NEts yielded 2-aroyloxy-4//-pyrido[l,2-u]pyrimidin-4-ones 178 (96JHC663). None of the esters 178 could be rearranged to the 2-hydroxy-3-aroyl derivatives 179. The hydroxy group of 9-hydroxy-2-methyl-3- 2-[4-(6-fluoro-l,2-benzisoxazol-3-yl)-l-piperidinyl] ethyl -6,7,8,9-tetrahydro-4//-pyrido[l, 2-u]pyrimidin-4-one was acylated with hexadecanoic acid in CH2CI2 in the presence of dicyclohexylcarbodi-imide and 4-pyrrolidinopyridine at room temperature for 3 days in 80% yield (97MIP7). [Pg.213]

The most common major components of cutin are derivatives of saturated C16 (palmitic) acid and unsaturated C18 acids (Fig. 4). The major component of the C16 family of acids is 9- or 10,16-dihydroxyhexadecanoic acid (and some mid-chain positional isomers), with less 16-hydroxyhexadecanoic acid and much smaller amounts of hexadecanoic acid. In some cases other derivatives are significant constituents. For example, in citrus cutin 16-hydroxy-10-oxo-C16 acid, and in young Vicia faba leaves 16-oxo-9 or 10-hydroxy C16 acid are significant... [Pg.8]

The result obtained by GC-MS, with the same SPME conditions, from the black thick balm of a crocodile mummy (sample 1400, Musee Guimet, Lyon, France) is presented in Figure 10.11. The composition of the extract is close to that of sample 1998 but phenolic compounds were not detected. The GC-MS chromatogram obtained with the same substance after acid methanolysis and silylation is presented in Figure 10.12. Except for the sesquiterpenoids eluted between 10 min and 22 min, the observed compounds originate from a beeswax. The biomarkers of this substance are hexadecanoic acids hydroxylated in position 14 or 15 and long chain hydrocarbons, acids and alcohols eluted between 50 min and 90 min. Diterpenoid or triterpenoid resin components are not observed. [Pg.286]

In total, 185 substances were found in the wing-sac liquid of male S. bilineata from a Costa Rican population. For a more detailed analysis the relative peak area of thirteen focus compounds was compared (Table 14.1). Of these nine were male-specific substances (indole, indol-3-carboxaldehyde, indole-3-carboxylic acid, 2-aminoacetophenon, anthranilic acid, SHJOH-dipyrrolofl -aT -dJpyrazine-5,10-dione (pyrocoll), indolo[2,l-b]quinazoline-6,12-dione (tryptanthrin), 2,6,10-trimethyl-3-oxo-6,10-dodecadienolide, and a compound C15H24O2 of unknown structure), three were fatty acids (tetradecanoic acid, hexadecanoic acid, and octadecanoic acid), and one a steroid (cholesterol). On average, the cumulative peak area of these substances made up 62.5 20.7% of the whole chromatogram area. [Pg.155]
