Heterocyclic synthesis nitrogen-containing

Metal rf-inline complexes with various transition metals [1-10] and lanthanides [11,12] are well known in the literature. Early transition metal if-imine complexes have attracted attention as a-amino carbanion equivalents. Zirconium rf-imine complexes, or zirconaaziridines (the names describe different resonance structures), are readily accessible and have been applied in organic synthesis in view of the umpolung [13] of their carbons whereas imines readily react with nucleophiles, zirconaaziridines undergo the insertion of electrophilic reagents. Accessible compounds include heterocycles and nitrogen-containing products such as allylic amines, diamines, amino alcohols, amino amides, amino am-idines, and amino acid esters. Asymmetric syntheses of allylic amines and a-amino acid esters have even been carried out. The mechanism of such transformations has implications not only for imine complexes, but also for the related aldehyde and ketone complexes [14-16]. The synthesis and properties of zirconaaziridines and their applications toward organic transformations will be discussed in this chapter. [Pg.2]

A completely different, important type of synthesis, which was developed more recently, takes advantage of the electrophilicity of nitrogen-containing 1,3-dipolar compounds rather than the nucleophilicity of amines or enamines. Such compounds add to multiple bonds, e.g. C—C, C C, C—O, in a [2 + 3 -cycioaddition to form five-membered heterocycles. [Pg.152]

The 4-unsaturated-5-oxazolones provide convenient starting materials for the synthesis of other nitrogen-containing heterocyclic systems. The preparation of tetrazoles and isoquinolines is discussed in Sections II,B, 1 and II,B,2,b. [Pg.91]

Chalcone dibromides are advantageous intermediates for the preparation of various nitrogen-containing heterocycles (refs. 1-4). In the case of exocyclic a,P-unsaturated ketones, however, only few examples are known concerning the utilization of their dibromides for such purposes (ref. 5). Our aim was, therefore, the synthesis of the dibromides of various exocyclic a,P-unsaturated ketones (ref. 6) and to study their chemical transformations. In our present paper the reaction of such dibromides with azide nucleophile is reported. [Pg.174]

Due to its marked atom economy, the intramolecular hydroamination of alkenes represents an attractive process for the catalytic synthesis of nitrogen-containing organic compounds. Moreover, the nitrogen heterocycles obtained by hydroamination/cyclisation processes are frequently found in numerous pharmacologically active products. The pioneering work in this area was reported by Marks et al. who have used lanthanocenes to perform hydroamination/cyclisation reactions in 1992. These reactions can be performed in an intermolecular fashion and transition metals are by far the more efficient catalysts for promotion of these transformations via activation of the... [Pg.356]

Many other nitrogen- and sulfur-containing rings are available from reactions of the Willgerodt-Kindler type. Benzo- and pyridino-fused thia-zoles, for example, are formed from anilines (benzeneamines) and amino-pyridines, respectively.25 Asinger26 has reviewed the scope of these reactions in heterocyclic synthesis. [Pg.55]

The synthesis of nitrogen containing heterocyclic systems by photocylo-addition processes is virtually limited to examples involving [ 2 + 2] cycloaddition of imines, nitriles, and azo compounds. Successful additions are few in number and the requirements for success uncertain. The reactions do not proceed with the facility with which carbonyl containing compounds undergo photocycloaddition to alkenes to give oxetans, and various explanations have been advanced to account for this observed lack of reactivity.226... [Pg.285]

Cycloaddition reactions of furans are still widely used as key steps in the construction of complex molecules including natural products. As an example, the intramolecular Diels-Alder cycloaddition of 2-amido substituted furans provides a useful tool for the synthesis of fused, nitrogen-containing poly-heterocycles. Thus, thermolysis of 3-substituted amidofuran produces tricyclic indolinone 39 as a 2 1 mixture of diastereomers via amidofuran cycloaddition-rearrangement methodology, which serves as a key intermediate in the total synthesis of ( )-dendrobine, a major component of the Chinese ornamental orchid Dendrobium nobile . [Pg.134]

Strecker reactions provide one of the most efficient methods for the synthesis of a-amino nitriles, which are useful intermediates in the synthesis of amino acids and nitrogen-containing heterocycles. Although classical Strecker reactions have some limitations, use of trimethylsilyl cyanide (TMSCN) as a cyano anion source provides promising and safer routes to these compounds.133-351 Consequently, we focused our attention on tributyltin cyanide (Bu3SnCN), because Bu3SnCN is stable in water and is also a potential cyano anion source. Indeed, the Strecker-type reactions of aldehydes, amines, and Bu3SnCN proceeded smoothly in water (Eq. 9).1361 It should be noted that no surfactants are required in this reaction. Furthermore, Complete recovery of the toxic tin compounds is also possible in the form of bis(tributyltin) oxide after the reaction is over. Since conversion of bis(tributyltin) oxide to tributyltin cyanide is known in the literature, this procedure provides a solution to the problem associated with toxicity of tin compounds. [Pg.11]
