Hemispherical domes

A hemispherical dome of 200 mm diameter has been vacuum formed from a flat sheet 4 mm thick. What is the thickness of the dome at the point furthest away from its diameter. 

A plate. 1 m in diameter at 750 K, is to be heated by placing it beneath a hemispherical dome of the same diameter at 1200 K the distance between the plate and the bottom of the dome being 0.5 m, as shown in Figure 9.42. If the surroundings are maintained at 290 K, the surfaces may be regarded as black bodies and heat transfer from the underside of the plate is negligible, what is the net rate of heat transfer by radiation to the plate ...

The hemispherical dome (HD) test provides more reproducibility of results than the Olsen and Erichsen cup tests. For low-carbon steels, the dome height, which is determined at the point of maximum load, increases linearly with the n value. For other materials such as brass, aluminum alloys, and zinc, optimum correlation has been found between the dome height and the total elongation, which includes the effects of strain rate hardening and limiting strains. 

Advances in deposition techniques have now made possible the fabrication of free-standing shapes such as the 7.6 cm (3 ) diameter hemispherical dome for IR-window applications shown in Fig. 13.10 which may eventually replace the present IR materials. 

Ducted radomes are used that are hemispherical domes mounted on a cylindrical base. These consist of several orange peel side panels connected by a spherical cap panel. Such an RP structure can include hot-air ducts between the inner and outer skins of the side panels for anti-icing purposes. 

The shapes used, so far, for PCRVs have varied from a cyhnder bounded by two inverted, non-prestressed, hemispherical domes, torospherical domes to spherical shells. The current trend in PCRV configuration is the use of thick-walled cylinders, the ends of which are closed by fiat slabs known as caps. The boilers and circulators are either housed within the main cavity or within the thickness of the walls the latter is known as a multi-cavity-type vessel. This study is concerned with such vessels also apart from other shapes. 

An ice rink (circular) is enclosed by a hemispherical dome. The ice and dome are at 0°C and 15°C, respectively. The rink diameter is 25 m. What is the net radiative transfer (assume blackbodies) ... 

The manufacture of hemispherical domes is well established, particularly in the field of composites, as a method of assessing the relative ability of the materials and processes to produce doubly curved shell components. In the case of knitted fabric-reinforced thermoplastics, some of the key parameters relevant to product manufacture are (i) material strain behavior (stretching V5. draw-in), (ii) surface finish, (iii) gross wrinkling and buckling of the sheet material, and (iv) interply shear in the laminate. 

In the second growth mechanism, carbon is first ejected from the catalyst particle in the form of a hemispherical dome that initiates the nucleation and growth of the cylindrical walls. 

The reactor cavity is represented by a single volume connected to the containment bottom. The containment space is divided into two volumes. The cylindrical part of the containment, enclosing the primary system, is separated from the hemispherical dome above it. A number of heat structures represent different walls and floors, as well as numerous concrete and metallic inner walls, have also been included.
