Solvent residues head space analysis

Determination of residual solvents and volatile impurities by head space analysis... [Pg.207]

Which of the following capillary columns would be most suitable for use in the determination of residual solvents by head space analysis (consult Table 11.1) ... [Pg.232]

Solvent residues from printing and adhesives have the potential to cause food tainting. Typical solvents used in printing with characteristic, easily detectable odors are aliphatic esters, such as ethyl acetate, isopropyl acetate, and w-propyl acetate, the alcohols isopropyl alcohol and w-propyl alcohol and hydrocarbon mixtures, particularly aromatics. Regular tests are carried out by printers of food packaging to ensure that the concentrations of solvent residues are maintained below the odor and tainting threshold levels. The most widely used analytical technique to measure the levels of solvent residues is GC head-space analysis. Portions of the packaging are placed in sealed vials or other suitable containers and heated... [Pg.1603]

The solid polymer head space analysis technique developed by Crompton and Myers has been applied to the identification and determination of residual polymerization solvent residues in polyethylene and polypropylene. [Pg.1]

Gas chromatography is used extensively for the determination of residual monomers and other volatiles in copolymers. In diis technique the polymer is dissolved in a suitable, non-interfering solvent, and the solution to which a suitable internal standard is added, injected directly into the gas chromatograph. Head space analysis techniques, discussed later in section 2.3.2 (method 57) have also been applied to the determination of monomers in copolymers. [Pg.69]
