Harmonized terminology

We recall that in this terminology the center is the singular point (the state of rest) for simple harmonic motion represented in the phase plane by a circle (or by an ellipse). The trajectories in this case axe closed curves not having any tendency to approach the singular point (the center). [Pg.328]

The International Programme on Chemical Safety (IPCS) has undertaken a project to harmonize approaches to the assessment of risk from exposure to chemicals through increased understanding. The project focuses on specific issues and attempts to achieve agreement on basic principles. Among the project s focus areas are exposure assessment and terminology for exposure assessment and risk assessment. The status for the activities of the harmonization project is published in a newsletter (WHO/IPCS 2007). [Pg.317]

One vexed question concerning polarization sets is the number of functions in a given shell, as discussed elsewhere. The early quantum chemistry codes employed Cartesian Gaussian functions, so that a d set actually comprises the five spherical harmonic d functions and a 3s function generally termed a contaminant. The reason for this emotive terminology is that with multiple polarization sets the contaminants,... [Pg.356]

The term harmonic is used to refer to sinusoidal components that are nearly integral multiples of die fundamental frequency and are not necessarily exactly harmonic. The term partials refers to slowly-varying sinusoidal components that have frequencies with arbitrary value. This terminology is widely used in the speech and music literature [Moorer, 1977]. [Pg.507]

A harmonized classification was issued recently with ISO 14644-1, with reference to the classification terminology and also with units (now in m3). Rooms classified as ISO class 5, 7, or 8, correspond respectively to US categories 100, 10.000, or 100.000 (SBCC, 2005). The key element of the ISO class 5 is laminar air flow, a mass of air that flows at a controlled and low rate and so drags particles without turbulence. These are generally represented by air flow cabinets (islands of ISO class 5). [Pg.354]

One of the most important performance characteristics in residue analysis is certainly the detection capability of a method. Unfortunately, many different definitions with regard to the detection and quantifying capability of an analytical method are found in the literature. Attempts have been made to harmonize the definitions with regard to the limit of detection (LoD) and the limit of quantification (LoQ). For the sake of consistency, here reference is made only to the harmonized definitions of IUPAC and ISO for the detection decision (Lc, critical value), LoD (minimum detectable value) and LoQ (minimum quantifiable value) (45 -47). ISO terminology is given between brackets. [Pg.155]
