Hands-on activities

With respect to the nature of the tasks, we chose a developmental or a design task because we expected that such a behavioural environment (Gilbert, 2006) is closer to the lives of students. Besides, these tasks may offer opportimities for experimentation and hands-on activities in classrooms, when such tasks are meant as contexts for learning macro-micro thinking. 

Hands-On Chemistry Insights The insights are a follow-up to the Hands-On Chemistry activities. These insights are designed to ensure that the student is getting the most out of performing the Hands-On activities and also to clear up any misconceptions that may have developed.

The American Chemical Society s Web site contains hands-on activities, interactive games, and articles. 

This lesson on acids and bases includes hands-on activities such as cleaning pennies, using pH indicators, making invisible ink, and mapping the tongue s taste buds.

Introduction to Green Chemistry by Matlack (22) [UM, GR]. This textbook contains hands-on activities and more than 5,000 references. 

The American Chemical Society (ACS) offers a number of resources that supplement the curriculum. ACS collaborated with the Royal Society of Chemistry and the Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker to produce Introduction to Green Chemistry (18 a collection of six units that present key concepts in green chemistry. High-school students are the target audience for this resource, whose units incorporate hands-on activities such as a Vitamin C clock reaction. The ACS lab manual Greener Approaches to Undergraduate Chemistry Experiments (13) is available in both Spanish and Chinese.

Science continues to be an area of high interest in pre-adolescents and adolescents alike, especially when you add plenty of hands-on activities and labs that your middle school child is both mentally and physically prepared to enjoy.
