Hamster hormone effects

Fig. 5.8(b) VN-x and releasing hormone effects on female receptive behaviour facilitation by LHRH and latency to tactile induction of lordosis in hamster (latency duration, sec.). LHRH restores responsiveness over saline control (from Mackay-Sim and Rose, 1986). [Pg.110]

Prolactin has been shown to increase LH receptor numbers in dwarf mice, seasonally repressed hamsters and hypophysectomized rats (see Ref. 6 for other references). In the hypophysectomized rats the combined effects of prolactin, growth hormone and LH were necessary to maintain the LH receptors [46]. The induction of hyperprolactinemia leads to increased LH receptors. Decreases in serum prolactin levels caused by treatment with compounds that inhibit the release of prolactin (dopamine analogues) decrease LH receptors (see Ref. 6 for other references). [Pg.161]

In contrast, prooxidant effects of estrogens have been established in other model systems. 17(3-estradiol or other estrogens induce single-strand breaks or 8-hydroxylation of guanine bases of DNA in Syrian hamsters treated with these hormones. Moreover, metabolites of estrogen or diethylstilbestrol in the presence of peroxidase and DNA induce 8-hydroxylation... [Pg.148]
