Lately it has been found that it takes ten times as much haloperidol to relieve schizophrenic symptoms in Caucasians as it does in the inhabitants of Taiwan. And when using propanolol for the control of blood pressure, men of Chinese descent metabolize it more efficiently than Caucasians and could use lower doses for comparable effects. 

In a study of haloperidol and its metabolite, reduced haloperi-dol (reduction of the benzylic ketone C=0 group to C-OH), it was found that reduced-haloperidol levels in Chinese patients were only about one-third those in age-matched non-Chinese patients 0ann et al. 1989). The lower reduced-haloperidol-to-haloperidol ratio in Chinese, caused either by a slower rate of reduction of haloperidol or a more active oxidation process converting reduced haloperidol back to haloperidol, could significantly affect the clearance of haloperidol and result in higher plasma levels of haloperidol.

A study of intramuscular ziprasidone versus intramuscular haloperidol for managing agitation in a Chinese population was conducted [14 ]. There were fewer adverse events with ziprasidone particularly extrapyramidal symptoms and the most common adverse events with ziprasidone were dizziness and somnolence. Most subjects had no clinically significant changes in ECG five ziprasidone and three haloperidol patients had a QTcF>450ms.
