Deoxy and Branched-Chain Sugars.- Methyl 7-deoxy-0-D-glycero-D-qalacto-heptopyranoside and methyl 7-deoxy-a-L-qlycero-D-galacto-hepto-pyranoside,derivatives of 1,2-0-isopropylidene-3-C-pyridin-2-yl-0-D-psicopyranose, ° methyl 4,6-bis-O-(p-chloroben-zoyl)-2,3-dideoxy-3-C-(methoxycarbonylmethyl)-g-D-ribo-hexopyran-oside, and ethyl 4,6-di-0-acetyl-2,3-dideoxy-45 -dihydro-3 -phenyl-g-D-manno-hexopyranosid [2,3-d]isoxazole.  

Diulose and Acid derivatives.- D-threo-hexo-2,5-diulose dimer (full report see Vol. 10, p. 108), galactaric acid, L-ascorbic acid 2-O-phosphate, D-erythronic acid 3,4-carbonate, and methyl (methyl 3-deoxy-D-arabino-2-heptulopyranosid) onate. Single crystal X-ray analysis has been used to study the dehydration of crystalline D-glucuronamide hydrate.

The electron capture detector (ECD) was invented by Lovelock in 1961 and is probably the third most used detector. As its name implies, it is selective for materials that capture electrons—halogen- and nitrogen-containing compounds such as pesticides and unsaturated compounds such as the polynuclear aromatics. It is an ionization detector, but unlike the FID it is a concentration type and a bulk property type detector. As such it is an exception to our generalization that bulk property detectors are not very sensitive.

Sulfur- and nitrogen-containing compounds will produce their corresponding oxides and should not be incinerated without considering their effects on air quality. Halogenated hydrocarbons not only may affect air quality but also may corrode the incinerator. Also, organo-metallic compounds containing cadmium, mercury, and so on, are not recommended for incineration because of the potential for air and solid waste contamination.

It can be trimerized to. f-trimethyltriazine (25) and has been telomerized with ethylene (26) and copolymerized with a-epoxides (27).
