It was obvious to many, apparently, that discord and disappointment filled the marriage of Fritz Haber and Clara Immer-wahr. And most of their acquaintances—or at least those whose memories ended up in archives—blamed Clara. [Pg.70]

Had it not been for Fritz Haber s friends, the details of his life would quickly have disappeared and no biography would have been possible. Haber died an outcast, without a permanent address or a professional home to safeguard his files. The cataclysms of war and genocide scattered his family and most of his closest friends across two continents. Correspondence lay abandoned in basements and bombs destroyed some of the archives containing records of Haber s work. [Pg.299]
