Growth selected sectors

This experiment demonstrates that a distinction between the r and z faces based on the size difference becomes impossible. Also, the growth sector of the z face takes on a violet color. In an isotropic environment, the violet coloring appears selectively in the r growth sectors, and the z growth sectors are colorless. This experiment also demonstrates that the partitioning of impurity Fe is affected by the growth rate. 

We have explained why it is virtually impossible to grow out of the sector s performance problem. This, however, means it is mandatory to pursue excellence in operations, an area easily neglected in the days when growth was still the answer. In fact, operational efficiency is already high on the agenda of all major specialty chemical companies. Clariant, Degussa, and Schulman are only three among many companies that have embarked on efficiency improvement initiatives. Key for success will be to match the level of sophistication in each step of the business system with the business model(s) selected. 

In the preface to the first edition of this book pubiished in 2000, we said Industrial applications of homogeneous catalysis are proven, and a much wider application in the future is anticipated. Growth in the area of homogeneous catalysis with transition metal over the last 12 years has been phenomenal, and the innumerable number of patent applications and successful commercialization of selected processes in sectors as diverse as bulk chemicals, specialty polymers, and pharmaceutical intermediates have validated our anticipation.
