Nationwide, plants that emit SO2 at a rate below 1.2 Ibs/mm Btu will be able to increase emissions by 20% between a baseline year and 2000. Bonus allowances will be distributed to accommodate growth by units in states with a statewide average below 0.8 Ibs/mm Btu. Plants experiencing increases in their utilization in the last five years also receive bonus allowances, 50,000 bonus allowances per year are allocated to plants in 10 mid western states that make reductions in Phase I. Plants that repower with a qualifying clean coal technology may receive a 4 year extension of the compliance date for Phase II emission limitations. [Pg.401]

The air-mass thunderstorm is the least severe of all thunderstorms. In its simplest form, an air-mass thunderstorm grows as a single cell when solar radiation heats the surface air in an unstable atmosphere. Its life cycle lasts around 30 minutes. Towering cumulus clouds are formed as in-cloud updrafts push moisture upward. The tower may reach a height about five times the diameter of the cloud base in the growth phase. [Pg.89]

Figure 9. Streamlines (top) and relative gas phase composition of A1 species (bottom) In a vertical axlsymmetrlc reactor at five different times during growth of an AlAs/GaAs superlattice. Red corresponds to all A1 species, violet to no A1 species. The corner Insert portrays the variation In solid fraction of A1 across the Interface. Buoyancy dominated flow. Figure 9. Erwinia chrysanthemi synthesizes and secretes a large number of pectinases. The major pectinases include a pectin methylesterase PemA and five isoenzymes of endo-pectate lyases PelA, PelB, PelC, PelD and PelE. In addition, secondary pectinases were identified a pectin methylesterase PemB, two endo-pectate lyases PelL and PelZ, an exo-pectate lyase PelX and an exopolygalacturonase, PehX. The regulation of pectinase synthesis is very complex and dependent on many environmental conditions. It is induced by pectin catabolic products and affected by growth phase, catabolite repression, osmolarity, iron or oxygen starvation... [Pg.311]

Sub-cellular fractionation of five strains reveal the same numbers of bands. The distribution of PG activity in sub-cellular organelles was broadly similar in these five strains. PG activity was detected in low-density vesicles, vacuoles and ER fractions in samples harvested during the early exponential phase of growth. However, PG levels were always lower (at least 1.5 fold) than those found in wild type. Cells of the mutants harvested during stationary phase of growth showed that 84% of total intracellular PG activity was located in the vesicle fraction. No intracellular PG activity was found in stationary phase wild type cells. [Pg.866]

An advantage of the constant composition technique is that relatively large extents of growth and enhanced crystallinity can be achieved at low supersaturations. Improved crystallinity of the particles during crystallization is reflected in lower specific surface areas of the solid phases x-ray powder diffractograms of the solid phases removed from the crystallization cell also show increases in sharpness. Experiments in which crystal growth was allowed to proceed until five or six times the amount of... [Pg.654]

Five different concentrations (0, 25, 50, 75, 100 mg/1) of explosives were added to the cultivation medium from stock solution of TNT (100 mg/ml, DMSO). The experiment were done in triplicates for particular concentration and harvest-day. The concentration which inhibits growth of suspension culture by 50% (IC50), was calculated from GVs, which corresponded to the end of exponential phase of growth and which differed for particular species. The GVs for different concentration of explosives were plotted and IC50 calculated. [Pg.215]

Table I presents a summary of some of the literature pertinent to the phase behavior of a number of the lighter components of petroleum, listing publications. In this table the specific references for each subject are identified by an index number applicable to an American Documentation Institute reference 59). The large number of entries involved does not permit the inclusion of the specific references as part of this discussion. The marked increase in publication found in the past five years appears typical of the general growth of research activities, although in part it may result from a more complete literature search in this period. The nanostructured interface of this particular PPE/SAN/SBM blend, with a highly diffusive, elastomeric, discontinuous coverage and five different polymers is likely to easily create thermodynamic instabilities as a result of the gas transport between the phases [81, 82], Subsequently, nucleants can be formed which finally lead to cell growth in the SAN phase. In order to describe more precisely these effects induced by the nanostructured interface, we will revisit the gas solubility of the individual phases (Fig. 20). [Pg.225]
