Griseofulvin antifungal activity

Antibacterial activities against S. aureus and E. coli were moderate compared to penicillin and the antifungal activities against Cutvularia lunata and Fusarium oxysporium were lower compared to griseofulvin.

Griseofulvin is effective orally against dermatophyte infections caused by epidermophyton, microsporum, and trichophyton. It is ineffective against Candida and P orbiculare. Griseofulvin s mechanism of antifungal action is not fully understood, but it is active only against growing cells. 

Abstract Emulsions of silicone polymers having p-cyclodextrin units as lateral chains have been prepared and used for the encapsulation of the antifungal drug griseofulvin. Such technology enables the formulation of active substances that are not soluble in water as dosage fonns for topical administration.
