Green lances

Other coloured flames follow similar physico-chemical phenomena but operate in different regions of the spectrum. Consequently, the maker of the coloured lance has at his disposal copper salts for blue, strontium salts for red, sodium salts for yellow and barium salts for green, as shown in Table 10.2. [Pg.130]

Composition for lances. Yellow saltpeter 16 parts, meal powder 16, sulfur 4, amber 4, and colophony 3 parts. Rose saltpeter 16 parts, lampblack 1, meal powder 3. White saltpeter 16 parts, sulfur 8, meal powder 4. Blue saltpeter 16 parts, antimony (sulfide) 8, very fine zinc filings 4. Green saltpeter 16 parts, sulfur 6, verdigris 16, and antimony (sulfide) 6 parts. [Pg.58]

The second German edition of Ruggieri s book (we have not seen the first) contains a Nachtrag or supplement which lists nine compositions,10 of which four contain Kali oxym. or potassium chlorate. These are (1) for red fire, strontium nitrate 24 parts, sulfur 3, fine charcoal 1, and potassium chlorate 5 (2) for green fire, barium carbonate 20 parts, sulfur 5, and potassium chlorate 8 parts (3) for green stars, barium carbonate 20 parts, sulfur 5, and potassium chlorate 9 parts and (4) for red lances, strontium carbonate 24 parts, sulfur 4, charcoal 1, and potassium chlorate 4 parts. Ruggieri says ... [Pg.61]

The whole region was now visible, and the reflection of the figures... the melee of lances and swords, shields and helmets, bowing down on every side to the crowns which appeared here and there, and which in turn finally withdrew and retreated before a simple green wreath, to form a wide circle around it... all this was mirrored in the frozen sea encircling the mountain on which the city stood. [Pg.87]

When working with the green sand method, a simple system of vents can be created by lancing the completed mold/ pattern several times w/a piece of sharpened welding rod,Do this just prior to pouring the metal. [Pg.120]

To correct the anode effect, fresh powdered alumina prewarmed on the electrolyte crust of the cell is broken into the molten electrolyte with a remotely controlled pneumatic hammer. The anode polarizing gas was once dispelled by the rapid flow of combustion gases from the burning of a green wood pole poked through the crust. Now, however, air lances are used to accomplish this task, referred to as poling. ... [Pg.372]

The name "saw" palmetto comes from the sharp-edged fan-shaped leaves. The bladelike serrated edges create nearly impenetrable thickets. The leaves are palmate (fan-shaped) and are divided into 18 to 24 lance-shaped leaflets. The leaves range in color from blue-green to yellow-green to an almost silvery white. The aromatic flowers are an ivory-white color and are found in large clusters. May through July. [Pg.22]
