Alachlor is a pre-emergence herbicide registered by Monsanto in 1969. It is used as an herbicide for grasses, broadleaf seeds, corn, sorghum, soybeans, peanuts, cotton, vegetables, and forage crops. 

They live for more than two years and, once fully developed, they usually produce seeds each year. Many of the grasses and forage legumes are pereimials, as are many of the horticultural fruit crops such as raspberries or apples, and some energy crops such as willow and Miscanthus.

With aridity increasing, various plant species of forage crops become gradually less numerous to finally disappear. In Dry Steppe ecosystems xerophylic half-shrubs and salt-tolerant plants replace the grasses. However, the ash content is higher in these species. This is attributed not only to a higher concentration of major ash elements in the plant tissue, but also to the exposure to finely dispersed dust adhered to the plants exterior (Table 9). 

Energy crops such as short-rotation woody crops, herbaceous woody crops, grasses, starch crops, sugar crops, forage crops, oilseed crops, switchgrass, and miscanthus can be converted to liquid biofuels by thermochemical and biochemical conversion processes.
