Filler graphite

Expansion and contraction can be controlled in plastic by its orientation, cross-linking, adding fillers or reinforcements, and so on. With certain additives the CLTE value could be zero or near zero. For example, plastic with a graphite filler contracts rather than expands during a temperature rise. RPs with only glass fiber reinforcement can be used to match those of metal and other materials. In fact, TSs can be specifically compounded to have little or no change.

It is customary to apply these polymers as the poly(amic -acids) and to dehydrate the film, coating, fiber or molded forms by heating to produce the polyimides. Polyimides are insoluble in most solvents hut are attacked by alkalies, ammonia and amines. These heat resistant polymers are used without fillers and with a graphite filler. 

Waste incineration requires sophisticated scrubbers to contain corrosive volatiles which are in contact with the scrubber wall at elevated temperatures reaching 220°C. " Glass mat reinforced novolac epoxy vinyl ester resins have good performance in this application except that they are subjected to thermal stress due to the temperature difference between surface and wall, and they frequently crack. In order to improve performance, a two layer laminate was produced. The base layer is composed of resin reinforced with glass mat. The resin contains 15-20% graphite filler. The surface layer contains 100 g/m" of carbon fiber. The presence of these two fillers helps to distribute heat more evenly throughout the layer of laminate and prevents cracking even under extreme conditions. "... 

As seen from Table IV and Figures 4 and 5, graphite filler does not result in much enchancement of tan S height or breadth. With plasticizers such as Benzoflex 9-88 and Santlcizer-160, increased tan S height accompanied by a narrower temperature range were observed with Stan-Flux-LV.
