As one of such heat-resistant polymers, heat-resistant ABS is a plastic having excellent processability and mechanical properties, and it is the product that can particularly be applied to the field requiring high heat resistance among the applications where coloring properties and gloss are demanded. As the major use, it is broadly applied to electric and electronic products and daily miscellaneous goods further, it can be extensively applied to the interior and exterior materials of automobiles. [Pg.125]

Organosilicon polymers. Silicon resembles carbon in certain respects and attempts have been made to prepare polymers combining carbon and silicon units in the molecule with the object of increasing the heat resistance of polymers. It has been found that the hydrolysis of a dialkyl-dichlorosilicane or an alkyltrichlorosilicane, or a mixture of the two, leads to polymers (Silicones), both solid and liquid, which possess great thermal stability. Thus dimethyldichlorosilicane (I) is rapidly converted by water into the silicol (II), which immediately loses water to give a silicone oil of the type (III) ... [Pg.1020]

Furfural reacts with ketones to form strong, crosslinked resins of technical interest in the former Soviet Union the U.S. Air Force has also shown some interest (42,43). The so-called furfurylidene acetone monomer, a mixture of 2-furfurylidene methyl ketone [623-15-4] (1 )> bis-(2-furfurylidene) ketone [886-77-1] (14), mesityl oxide, and other oligomers, is obtained by condensation of furfural and acetone under basic conditions (44,45). Treatment of the "monomer" with an acidic catalyst leads initially to polymer of low molecular weight and ultimately to cross-linked, black, insoluble, heat-resistant resin (46). [Pg.79]

Thermal Properties. ABS is also used as a base polymer in high performance alloys. Most common are ABS—polycarbonate alloys which extend the property balance achievable with ABS to offer even higher impact strength and heat resistance (2). [Pg.203]

Cross-linked macromolecular gels have been prepared by Eriedel-Crafts cross-linking of polystyrene with a dihaloaromatic compound, or Eriedel-Crafts cross-linking of styrene—chloroalkyl styrene copolymers. These polymers in their sulfonated form have found use as thermal stabilizers, especially for use in drilling fluids (193). Cross-linking polymers with good heat resistance were also prepared by Eriedel-Crafts reaction of diacid haUdes with haloaryl ethers (194). [Pg.563]

Polyquinoxalines (PQ) have proven to be one of the better heat-resistant polymers with regard to both stabiUty and potential appHcation. The aromatic backbones are derived from the condensation of a tetramine with a bis-glyoxal, reactions first done in 1964 (61,62). In 1967, a soluble, phenylated version of this polymer was produced (63). The chemistry and technology of polyquinoxalines has been reviewed (64). [Pg.535]

New heat-resistant polymers containing -iiitrophenyl-substituted quinoxaline units and imide rings as well as flexible amide groups have been synthesi2ed by polycondensation reaction of a dianainoquinoxaline derivative with diacid dichlorides (80). These polymers are easily soluble in polar aprotic solvents with inherent viscosities in the range of 0.3—0.9 dL/g in NMP at 20°C. AH polymers begin to decompose above 370°C. [Pg.537]
