In addition, government publications are also made accessible to the public at depository libraries which are entitled to receive a free copy of every publication made available to the Superintendent of Documents. Details of new publications of the UKAEA are noted in the daily, monthly, annual and cumulated lists of government publications and in the British National Bibliography. Sectional List No. 63 issued by HMSO lists all reports for sale up to the end of December 1960. In addition the library at AERE, Harwell, issues a Monthly List of Publications Available to the Public which includes reports and translations issued by the UKAEA, patents claimed by the Authority and articles by members of its staff that have appeared in journals. It also provides a list of depository libraries and indicates the price of those reports available for sale. Annual cumulations have been issued since 1956. [Pg.205]

One system for location of out-of-print documents which is not discussed under each agency but is used by most is the depository library. A description of the method used to distribute reports to depository libraries has been included under Government Printing Office. Aside from the nearly 600 GPO depository libraries, some agencies have selected additional libraries to receive their publications. Therefore, requests for lists of depository libraries should be directed to the individual agency in question. [Pg.177]

New York Public Library has one of the largest reference collections in the world with a stock of over four million volumes. The Science and Technology Division has important collections of basic standard works, and of the periodical and serial publications of most of the leading societies and institutions of the world, as well as government agencies and international organizations.
