Glutaric anhydride modification

SAMs of OH-terrninated alkanethiols have been used in many surface modification reactions (Fig. 14). These reacted with OTS to yield a weU-ordered bdayer (322), with octadecyldimethylchlorosilane (323,324), with POCI3 (325—327), with trifluoroacetic anhydride (328), epichlorohydrin (329), with alkyhsothiocyanate (330), with glutaric anhydride (331), and with chlorosulfonic acid (327). 

The procedure for the modification of amine-containing compounds with glutaric anhydride is identical to that described for succinic anhydride, above.

PAMAM]. The final step of this functionalization relied on activation and cross-linking of attached dendrimers with a homobifunctional spacer (DSG or PDITC). Alternatively, after attachment of dendrimers to the surface, glutaric anhydride activated with V-h ydrox vsucc i n i m i de can be used. This surface modification yields a thin, chemically reactive polymer film, which is covalently attached to the glass support and can be directly used for the covalent attachment of amino-modified components, such as DNA or peptides (Fig. 14.2b). 

Cyclic anhydrides have been studied as chemical reagents for wood modification phtalic anhydride, maleic anhydride, glutaric anhydride, succinic anhydride and alkenyl succinic anhydrides (ASA) [42]. Scots pine-treated samples with petrochemical octenyl succinic anhydrides (ASAs) dissolved in pyridine that after treatment did not present enough resistance against fungi decay but increased dimensional stability.
