Synthesis glucose conjugates

A new method of stereoselective synthesis of thiodisaccharides by conjugate addition of 1-thio- D-glucose (8a) or 1-thio-a-L-fucose (30b) to an imsatura-ted carbohydrate molecule was also used for the preparation of o-glucopyrano-syl- and of L-fiicopyranosyl-thiodisaccharides [56]. 

The ability of the rat to use lactate, pyruvate, and D-glucose to equal extents in the synthesis of 1-naphthyl D-glucosiduronic acid was demonstrated by Packham and Butler.158 The lactate and pyruvate were labeled with C14 at the carboxyl carbon lactate labeled at Cl and C2 was also used and the D-glucose was uniformly labeled. D-Glucuronate-C14 was utilized for D-glucuronic conjugation on oral administration, but was twenty times as effective after intraperitoneal injection. 

Lactose, seen in the Ice Cream Parlor, is synthesized preferentially in the mammary glands. Lactase, which facilitates the breakdown of lactose to glucose and galactose, is found in microvilli of the small intestine. Glucuronate synthesis occurs largely in the liver where it is used to conjugate bilirubin and to detoxify various chemicals in preparation for excretion.
