Glazing coating

Glaze coatings (58) are appHed to dry or bisque-fired clay ceramics to form a strong, impermeable surface that is aesthetically pleasing. Protective ceramic coatings can also be deposited by CVD (68,90). Plasma activated CVD has been used extensively to produce diamond and diamondlike films. Diamond films can also be used to make optical coatings with a tailored refractive index.

Bricks are available with several types of textures roughened, smooth, or glazed with a glasslike glaze coating applied to its face. In the United States 94% of the production is face brick used for the outer surface of a wall. The bulk of the remainder is backing or common brick used behind face brick. 

Majolica is an earthenware pottery characterized by a creamy light-buff-colored paste and an opaque white tin-lead glaze coating the entire outer surface of the vessel. However, the most outstanding feature of the majolica pottery perhaps lies in its decoration, being the subject of numerous studies by art historians. Majolica decorations are produced from metallic oxides that always are applied on top of the tin glaze. 

The bottom of a piece should not be coated with glaze. Coated bottoms, when heated, will melt and stick to the shelf of the kiln. (Kiln firing is discussed later in this chapter.)... 

When applying the glaze, coat the object evenly to avoid thick and thin spots in the glaze finish. 

Cover your work surface with wax paper or aluminum foil. Using a spatula or a fork, dip each cookie into the warm mint-chocolate glaze, coating both sides and letting the excess drip off before placing the cookie on the wax paper. For a cleaner—and more chic—look, dip only half the cookie.

The distribution of the conductive particles and the contact between them also determines the resistance of the deposited film. Final resistance values are obtained either by sand blasting, where the thickness of the film is reduced, or by laser trimming, to increase the effective length of the resistor. These procedures would be performed after the resistor has been fired, but before the application of the protective glaze coating.
