Spray-Up. Instead of hand lay-up, continuous glass roving and liquid resin are fed into a gun, which chops the glass fiber, mixes it with the resin, and sprays it into the mold. This can be automated for lower labor cost and greater uniformity. Spraying is often followed by hand-rolling to expel air and density the assembly. Then it is allowed to stand until cured. Products are similar to those from simple hand lay-up. [Pg.685]

Additional runs were made for E-glass rovings at 50 C and 60 C, and for S-glass rovings at 60 C. [Pg.412]

Dissolution of magnesium and silicon in water from E-glass rovings at k0°, 50 , and 60°C after different time periods is shown in Figures 1 and 2, in which the dissolved amounts are in milligrams of these components per liter (equivalent to parts per million by weight). The dissolutions were relatively rapid in the early stage, but the rate tapered off with time. [Pg.413]

As with S-glass rovings. Mg (or MgO) was more readily leached out than Si from E-glass, i.e., the relative amounts of Mg and Si dissolved in water were higher than those of the solid phase. For instance, after 200 hours at 50 C, the Mg/Si weight ratio in the water is approximately 0.37 against a Mg/Si weight ratio of 0.107 in the solid phase. [Pg.413]

Figure 7. Magnesium concentration changes in water vs, time (log — log plot) S-glass rovings (temperature 30°, 40°, 50°, 60°C). Figure 7. Magnesium concentration changes in water vs, time (log — log plot) S-glass rovings (temperature 30°, 40°, 50°, 60°C).
In the presence of water, magnesium is preferentially leached out from both S-giass and E-glass rovings (compared to silicon and aluminium). [Pg.419]
